Big Telly Theatre Company presents
JUDY’S HOUSE
Every house has a story. This one is asking you to listen.
Judy’s House blends film, storytelling and sound to draw you into the blurred edges between public and private life — and the dark secrets people work so hard to hide.
There are social media posts, newspaper articles and anecdotes about Judy’s family, things that neighbours may have heard or seen, but no one knows what goes on behind closed doors. Until now.
Using tablets and headphones, the audience is invited to follow the footprints of Judy’s family, piecing together the story of what happened that night from the unique perspective of each person, and their lives and activity online.
Follow Judy, busy mum juggling party planning and pasta; Kyle, teenage boy, glued to his phone; or Lucy, about to turn seven, too excited to sleep, too frightened to speak, hiding under the dining table.
Immersive, suspenseful and quietly moving, Judy’s House asks one question: what should we do?
The experience concludes with a discussion about how to bring about change and reduce violence against women and girls, what is meant by ‘bystander intervention’ and what the authorities recommend in similar situations.
Skilled actor-facilitators will adapt this experience for each audience/context, trained in safeguarding, signposting and ensuring the comfort of the audience.
Big Telly has considerable experience in framing conversations about complex issues in a way which is accessible, engaging and ultimately uplifting. The aim of this project is to encourage communities to support each other and bring about positive change, so expect optimism, warmth and hope.
